WRINKLES: HOW TO REDUCE THEM WITH OUR TOP TIPS

It’s definitely something we can’t stop; the aging process is indeed inevitable, but the good thing is, we can always slow it down with a few techniques. There are some methods that are tried and tested to prevent wrinkles, so let’s look into the most obvious and unexpected ways to keep wrinkles away for a little while longer.

Smoking should be avoided

Over the years, studies have shown that those who smoke tend to have more wrinkles than those who don’t. It thins the skin and brings on premature aging in each smoker. The reason behind this isn’t clear, but it will be very beneficial for multiple reasons to try to avoid smoking. It can be a hard habit to break, but with help and the right motivation, it’s possible to kick the habit.

Exfoliate your skin

This method is very well known and easy to do on a daily basis or a couple of times a week. It tends to soften the appearance of wrinkles by removing dead skin cells, which brightens the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. You can exfoliate your entire body with a cleansing sponge and a scrub; most can be found in your local beauty supply store.

For your face, please remember to be gentle and exfoliate with products that will not be too harsh on your skin. Always check the product details if you have sensitive skin.

Moisturise daily

It’s no surprise that dry skin gets very crinkled, so with daily moisturising you will plump up the outer 2 layers to reduce further crinkling. You’ll need to choose the right moisturiser for your skin first, some of us are oily, dry and some have a combination of both. Always apply after washing your face and towel drying to increase absorption and lock in more moisture.

Wrinkle creams with collagen is a great way to start, so products that include Retinoid, Glycolic Acid and Vitamin C are proven to build collagen.

Eat to tackle wrinkles

Eating right is necessary for overall health, but you can also eat certain foods to help fight the wrinkling process. Foods like olive oil and salmon, which is high in Omega-3. Omega-3 is very important to fight inflammation that may lead to skin damage and studies have shown that consuming Omega-3 is also a better source of vitamin D than sunlight.

Another great source is vitamin C, so consuming high quality food is amazing for your skin. Overloading from the outside as well as consuming vitamin C won’t be as effective as you think. Our body naturally expels excessive vitamin, so it’s better to choose quality over quantity.

Don’t squint

Crows feet is no one’s best friend, so do what you can to avoid it. If you tend to squint a lot, it may be time for some reading glasses, wear sunglasses in the summer or put on a hat. Squinting not only causes crows feet, but the 11’s between your brows. Due to excessive folds in the skin, wrinkles will eventually pop through and remain, permanently.

Sun protection

Contrary to popular belief, wrinkles are not just down to aging, it’s also about sun exposure. Which is why areas of our body that is very rarely exposed to the sun remains wrinkle free and springy.

Sun protection is all about blocking UV Rays from damaging your skin, so sun cream is top of the list. Remember to keep a pocket-sized bottle in your bag and while on holiday to keep those wrinkles away.

There is no super solution, so a good combination of sun protection, moisturising, drinking lots of water and eating the right food is a great start.
